yes, I do think that design decisions are influenced by the current context. Even more, after a while the reasons get forgotton in the dust of the past, and then things are taken for granted which have been nothing but workarounds.

Like, in the context of MDE:

- the agile position that &quot;models are evil&quot;; which was a reasonable decision when models were nothing but nonupdated documentation, but is has become a hindrance in the context of state-of-the-art MD-tools and -strategies

- the position that projects need necssarily DSL technology, since all projects are unique and one cannot react otherwise to the dynamics of the requirements; which in fact has been once a reasoable approach in the absence of fairly general and flexible tools, but must rethought from time to time

The problem with such hidden assumptions is often, that the matter cannot be discussed easily, since the assumptions are not present in the conscious.
